Jacobo demostrates the creation of beautiful and earthy colors that he & Maria use in decorating the animals.

Jacobo Angeles

Jacobo Angeles, still in his mid-thirties, has attained international reknown and stature as a master of Oaxacan animal art: Jacobo is a giant standing on the broad shoulders of previous generations. Jacobo and Maria have evolved unique painting styles reflecting the symbolism of their Zapotec culture.

Jacobo has, however, gone beyond this, by incorporating the symbolism of all 7 of the principal Zapotec tribes of the Oaxaca valley into his art. This has become his signature style, and it is refelcted in several of the pieces which we proudly display in our gallery and on our web page. It is a style which is brilliant and rich, reflecting the importance of the earth and its traditions to these people indiginous to the amazing Oaxaca valley. As they are painted on to the fine carvings of his animals of all kinds, it seems to embody the depth of culture that we all, people and animals, are born into.

Jacobo has recently had a piece placed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. That is uncommon, to say the least, for a living artist. Only one painter has ever been placed (while alive) in the Louvre, and that was the legendary Picasso. That sent the value of his anything he ever did soaring, as we all know. It is a fair bet that Jacobo's works will take on greater and greater value with time, so we encourage you to invest in any art piece of his that you see, and that you like.
